Treasures of Soviet Animation, Vol. 1

This is probably not the best time to review as I have only seen two of the three animated features - the short ones. I will say there was enough room to add another. One is 10 minutes, another about 30 minutes, and then a 43 minute one.
Having seen The Return (10 minutes) and The Pass (30+ minutes), I can confirm that animation is quite good for the 80s. Those expecting something on the level of Japanese animation may be disappointed, but these images are quite unique on their own and don't need to be subject to comparisons.
The Return combines dream imagery with the cosmonaut's longing to return home. There is some tension from ground control's difficulty in waking their lone space traveller, but the images are dreamlike, but don't quite match the great imagination that goes into The Pass. This short animated feature gets better with repeat viewings. The first pass (pun intended) can be a bit disorienting.
Its been a good buy. I just think there was room to add another feature.
